Other measurements
176,772 other measurements from published US geologic maps, recorded as strike and dip and cited to the map each came from — 22% of the Atlas.
What it is
Not every orientation in the published record announces what it is. Some arrive with a symbol code and no legend the compile could resolve; some carry a term specific to one survey's usage; some are genuinely ambiguous in the source.
Rather than guess a type or discard the row, those measurements land here. The raw published term travels with each one and is shown on its record card, along with the citation of the map it came from, so a reader working in a particular area can resolve locally what the compile could not resolve globally.
This class is a statement about the compilation, not about the rocks. A high count says a source's type vocabulary was hard to decode, and it is worth reading before drawing any conclusion from that source's type breakdown.
How the Atlas records it
Every other row carries an azimuth and an inclination in one convention
(right-hand-rule strike and dip), a position in WGS 84 with the publisher's
own location confidence, the raw type term as the source published it, and the citation of the source map.
Selections export as CSV with a companion sources.csv of citations.
